writing coach

“When I write, I feel like an armless, legless man with a crayon in his mouth.”
— Kurt Vonnegut

approach

I’ve taught writing in classroom settings for five years (K-12), as well as private sessions since 2020 (adult learners), and have worked on my own projects for over fifteen years. I moved to Vancouver, BC to pursue my MFA in Playwriting at The University of British Columbia in 2015 and have since pursued a standup comedy career. I lead comedy writing workshops that focus on supporting underrepresented voices in comedy.

I like to approach sessions playfully, with curiosity, and non-authoritatively. Writing is a process of discovery—I don’t have your answers! You do. Our aim is to build your writing instincts so you can better trust your decision making.

personalized sessions

There is a toolbox full of tips, tricks, structures, and rules we can pull from to shape up our writing. Show, don’t tell, cut adverbs, etc. I am passionate about helping writers become self-sufficient authors and editors of their own work. I want to illuminate the ‘why’ behind your choices so that you feel confident and clear about your work. What I love offering clients is insight into their voice—their instincts, patterns, inspirations—that will then empower you to go after what you wanted to say all along.

I work with clients on their project-specific goals, as well as taking brainstorming sessions into polished first drafts. My goal for every session is to help you unlock the door to the next room of your project.

“I started working with K.C. in 2021, and our coaching sessions keep me accountable to my writing goals. She is inspiring and fun to meet with, which are two important motivators for me with creative work. Sessions are a mix of writing exercises, workshopping ideas, and editing with follow-up goals and recommendations. Work with this woman!”

— Candice B, Coaching Client
“K.C. did an amazing job helping us reframe our approach to setting up a writing routine and giving us techniques for how to deal with internal friction that often stops us from entering a creative headspace. She also broke down the writing process in a way that was very valuable, something a writer of any level could use.”
— Stefan S., Long Distance Writing Student
